The Embassy of Israel in Nepal organized the visit of three prominent Israeli caricaturists to Nepal from 28 to 30 September 2026 (Asoj 12-14, 2083 B.S.). The visitors were Nissim Hezkiyau (Nusko), Prof. Itamar Daube and Uri Fink. The visit was part of an artistic and cultural exchange initiative between Israel and Nepal.
On 28 September, an Israeli-Nepali Cartoons Exhibition opened in Kathmandu under the theme “Highest and Lowest on Earth.” It featured work by Israeli and Nepali cartoonists who explored the theme through caricature and cartoons. The theme linked the Dead Sea, the lowest point on Earth, with Mount Everest, the highest.
Nissim Hezkiyau coordinated the Israeli works. Rajesh KC and Rabi Mishra of the Cartoonist Club of Nepal led the Nepali section.
Well-known Nepali cartoonists took part in the program, including Basu Kshitij, Rabi Mishra, Rabindra Manandhar, Rajesh KC and Anup Tamu Gurung, along with other artists.
The exhibition also included a live caricature session where the Israeli artists drew portraits of guests. The audience received it warmly, and many guests took their caricatures home as a keepsake.
Welcoming the artists and guests, Chargé d’Affaires a.i. Janan Bebar said the exhibition brings together two remarkable points on our planet: the Dead Sea, the lowest place on Earth, and Mount Everest, the highest. She added that cultural events like this bring our peoples closer through art, creativity and human connection. She also noted that cartoon art can make us think, smile and see familiar things from a different perspective, using just a simple line, a creative idea and sometimes a touch of humor.
Nissim Hezkiyau (Nusko) said it was wonderful to hold such a unique exhibition in a lovely and friendly country like Nepal.
The Israeli artists met Nepali cartoonists affiliated with the Cartoonist Club of Nepal. They shared their experiences and creative approaches and explored possible future collaboration.
Lectures for Journalism and Mass Communication Students
The visiting artists also held lectures and interactive sessions for Journalism and Mass Communication students at Tribhuvan University and Dibyabhumi Multiple College. The topics included:
“The Notion of Motion”
“Everyone Can Make Comics” workshop
“On the Face of Caricature Portrait”
Through the exhibition, interactions and lectures, the artists shared their insights into caricature, comics and visual communication. The visit gave both countries a platform to exchange ideas and strengthen cultural and artistic ties.
